Next Big Event

This is where we provide greater detail about the next big event here at Mesa View. We usually have four tournaments (two USTA sanctioned) throughout the year and as long as you're not off the grid we'll make sure you are aware.

Descriptions of regularly scheduled events/instruction can be found at Regular Events and all can be viewed at our Calendar. You can register for all events and schedule lessons at our main web site, Mesa View Swim and Tennis Club.

We will do our best to ensure we provide you this information in plenty of time for you to make plans.

Luck of the Irish Tournament - Thursday March 12 thru Sunday March 15, 2015

2.5 through 4.5 players compete for the top three prizes. Other levels can compete and may be champion of their group, but are not eligible for the top three prizes. This is not a USTA Sanctioned Tournament, but players must have a current NTRP rating. Groups are decided by rating, not by age.

You can be a 2.5 player (team) and win the Grand Prize! Those not eligible for prizes still continue to come out because this is such a fun tournament.

Jack Blutowski, who played tennis at Georgia and now lives in Atlanta, wrote:
"I still seem to always make it back for this tournament even if there are only three teams in my group. I'm definitely not Irish, but it's just a killer tournament and more fun than Savannah on St. Patty's Day."
The draw is based upon rating, rank, record and committee knowledge of player. It's not just tough in the middle. Group participants are split between two committees and then combined from top down without consideration of potential opponent. Sandbaggers beware!

All matches are the best two of three full sets.

First-round losers are allowed a consolation match. Second-round losers who had a first-round bye are not eligible for a consolation match.

All prizes and plenty of giveaways are provided by O'Neill's Bed, Breakfast and Brewery located in San Tan Valley. Please thank Danny O'Neill if you see him around the club, but don't be too gracious or he'll just gloat. (He usually is wearing something green, you can't miss him if he speaks and he has this funky inside-out shot no one forgets.)

The top three prizes are awarded to players (teams) from Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles based on total number of games won, decided by games lost if needed, and then the flip of a coin if still undecided. Actual prize winners are then drawn from a hat at the conclusion of the tournament. A team can be champion of the group and still not be eligible for one of the top three prizes - every game counts.

Grand Prize - 7 Day Ireland Vacation for Four - Includes lodging, breakfast and $500.00 in American Express Travelers Checks. 5 Days in Ireland - Two Days Air Travel. Flight departs and returns Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Ground travel provided in Ireland.
First Prize - 2 Nights for Four at O'Neill's Bed, Breakfast and Brewery. Breakfast and Lunch Provided. VIP use of their Courtyard Tennis Court.
2nd Prize - Dinner for Four at Clover. Includes an Open Ale and Lager Tab at the Brewery Pub.

Other prizes will be available to group champions from other donors, supporters and advertisers.

Fees: 1st Event $40.00...Each Additional Event $20.00...make a Reservation. (With matches being the best two out three full sets and each game having greater value, be mindful of how many events you commit to.)

More details to be announced as we approach the tournament date.
